'Ura Rā WOW Finalist
Ura Rā is a Cook Island dance costume made out of Sapelle and NZ Kauri wood veneer. Each piece of the design represents the land, sea and sky and are lit by warm white LEDs. The headpiece, which represents the sky, has the symbol of the sun (ra) and bird (manu). The bra is the land and has carvings of the flower (tiare). And finally the skirt (titi) is carved with the spearhead and waves to represent the sea. The costume was hand crafted and worn by me, photos by Jodi Meadows.
